Autumn is a pleasant time of year. The seasons start changing and before you get to the frigid winter you have a few pleasant months to finish the year during the autumn season. Since the seasons are changing be extra mindful of weather conditions when shooting outdoors.

The light is great and there are all those pretty colored leaves to document. Here are a few quick tips to help you make the most of the Autumn season.
Take advantage of the shorter days
You don’t need to get up at the crack of dawn to photograph a sunset and that pretty warm evening glow occurs early in the evening. So even if you’re too lazy to photograph in the beautiful first-light/last-light in summer now you can get out there and capture it.

Focus on the leaves
The leaves are what give color to the trees and when fall arrives, these change colors until they fall to the ground. Aside from taking landscape shots of rows of trees, step up close to individual leaves for some fantastic autumn images. Leaves are already interesting with their shapes and textures, and with the added blending of colors, they can look extraordinary.
You can also use your camera’s macro mode if it has one, and see how close you can get in capturing the leaf’s fine details.

Use autumn as a backdrop
The colors and the crisp blue skies make great backgrounds for photographing people, if you like a non-themed photo to send out as your holiday card now is a good time of year to get the family together and shoot it.

Capture the mood of autumn
This season seems to evoke feelings of melancholy, and an aura of mystery and eeriness. Perhaps it is because the days are shorter and dusk arrives before we know it, or it could be the leaves that are falling fast from trees, leaving them barren and desolate.
